And to do the best job possible, we've got to become the most efficient deliverer ofmerchandise that we can. Sometimes that can best be accomplished by purchasing goods directly fromthe manufacturer. And other times, direct purchase simply doesn't work. In those cases, we need to usemiddlemen to deal with smaller manufacturers and make the process more efficient. You don't have tohave a small ego to work here, but you'd better know how to make it look small, or you might wind up introuble. We can get beyond a lot of our old adversarial relationships and establish win-win partnerships with oursuppliers and our workers, which will leave us with more energy and talent to focus on the importantthing, meeting the needs of our customers. But all this requires overcoming one of the most powerfulforces in human nature: the resistance to change. To succeed in this world, you have to change all thetime.
